Welcome back listeners!
This week in the first period we discuss a big, disappointing week for the Flames who went 1-2-1. Games against Washington, Florida and Carolina are broken down as well as the Heritage Classic game against the Winnipeg Jets. We also talk about the Flames forward lines, which have been in a blender since Czarnik went down with an injury.
In period 2, we talk news and notes around the NHL. There have been a number of significant injuries and we are talking some of the elite players around the league as well as a major signing in Nashville.
Period 3 involves a closer look at two teams that NHL fans may be a bit surprised to see near the top of their divisions after the first bit of the season. Arizona sits in 3rd in the Pacific and are looking strong and the New York Islanders are carrying on from last year’s surprised season in the Metro Division.
Overtime – We give our thoughts on the suggestion by Jonathan Toews in The Athletic found here: https://theathletic.com/1331125/2019/10/29/introducing-the-toews-schedule-a-dramatically-reimagined-and-more-player-friendly-nhl-season/ ). Essentially, he suggests that to cut down on fatigue and carbon emissions, the NHL should change the schedule to be more like Major League Baseball and have teams stay in a city for a few days while on the road and play series, instead play one game, move on, and come back later in the year. We discuss the pros and cons.
