Episode 25 Best in the West

Hello again listeners! This week we discuss the Flames winning 3 of 4 and CLINCHING 1ST IN THE WEST! Home ice until the finals (if all goes according to plan). There was a game against Dallas (and no more needs to be said), followed by a bounce back against the Ducks, a less huge than we thought but still very impressive win against the Sharks and a rout of the Kinds by the B Squad.

This is definitely a Flames heavy episode, but we take some time to talk about the Wildcard races. In the east, the Blue Jackets stumbled after a nice winning streak, the Habs are within striking distance but that tie-breaker looms large, and the Hurricanes keep holding steady. The West looks like it is more settled with the Stars clinching the first Wildcard slot and the Avalanche looking like they will outlast a scrappy Coyotes team.

Back to the Flames! We discuss the internal competition for the 6th defenseman to start the playoffs and weigh in on our preferences. Finally, in overtime we talk about a couple of our favorite games from this season.

Have a great week and Go Flames Go!

Episode 24 Coming Down the Stretch

In this week’s episode, we reflect on another week that was for the Flames, including 4 performances and one stand out but (hopefully) future Norris Winner Mark Giordano.

Next, we look at the remaining schedule for the Eastern and Western teams on the bubble and try to asses who gets in and who falls short.

Period 3 sees us discuss the epic battle of the bottom dwelling owners in Melnyk vs Katz…a true battle for the ages.

Finally in Overtime, we look back on how the trade between Carolina and Calgary is progressing as both teams look to be making the playoffs. Enjoy friends!

Episode 023 King of the Hill

In this week’s episode, we reflect on the week that was for the Flames, including a return of their offense, a couple of dominant games from the Flames stars, and a setback in Winnipeg.

Next, we take a quick tour around the league and discuss the latest in Tampa Bay after they impressively clinched the President’s trophy with plenty of games left. We also discuss the Oilers and whether Leafs fans should be concerned over porous defensive play.

Then we talk about reffing around the NHL this season and if performances have slipped.

Finally in Overtime, we talk about Joel Quenville and where he might land in his coaching return. Enjoy!

Episode 022 Stopping the Slide

Welcome back! In this week’s episode we review what was a tough week for the Flames as the offense remained difficult to come by against Vegas and Arizona, before a strong bounce back game against those same Golden Knights led by the 3M line.

We also discuss coaches challenges, the current playoff format, and talk about a couple of teams in the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning that are rolling and looking nearly unbeatable as the playoffs approach.

Episode 021 Hey There Iginla

Welcome back listeners! In this week’s podcast we discuss the career of Jarome Iginla and other candidates that may see their Flames jersey retired or honored, the week that was for the Calgary Flames, and the possibility of the Columbus Blue Jackets missing the playoffs.

Episode 020 Trade Deadline Talk

Welcome back listeners! We are posting a bit later this week as we wanted to wait to see what happened on the trade deadline and potentially get a look at any new additions. The Flames made a minor trade for Oscar Fantenberg from the LA Kings, which we will discuss.

First period: A quick review of a 4-0-0 week by the Flames including two impressive wins over the Islanders and a couple of shakier wins over the Senators (farm team) and the Anaheim Ducks. After that we dive into the Flames basically standing pat and only making one minor move at the deadline. We have plenty of thoughts on it.

Second Period: An around the league report where we talk about the bigger deals that went down and our initial impressions on how those individual deals look. This includes the Stone trade to Vegas, Simmonds and Granlund to Nashville, Nyquist to the Sharks… and that’s just the Pacific division!

Third Period: Our co-hosts pick their winners and losers of the trade deadline including: the Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and Montreal Canadiens. Do you agree or disagree with any of our picks?

No overtime this week as this is already our longest episode. There was a ton to talk about and we hope you enjoy this one!

Episode 019

Welcome back listeners! Sorry for the delay on this week’s podcast.

First Period: We recap the Flames somewhat disappointing road swing from Tampa Bay to Miami to Pittsburgh as well as a solid home effort vs the Coyotes. We then discuss the Flames surging fourth line and the recent play of embattled goaltender Mike Smith.

Second Period: Back to trade deadline discussion. First we discuss the Oilers trading for Stolarz and bringing back Sam Gagner. Next we talk about some potential landing spots for the Ottawa 3 (Stone, Duchene, and Dzingel).

Third Period: We talk about the Wildcard races in the East and West, the incredible St. Louis Blues recent run, and the Carolina Hurricanes (those jerks).

OT: Lastly, we try something new with overtime this week and pick our powerplay dream line up. Give it a listen and let us know if you agree/disagree or what your picks would be.

Happy listening!
