This week we discuss a frustrating three games for the Flames. A good win against the Leafs followed by a strange pair of games where they dominate the first period and then blew both games despite playing alright.
This week in period one, we review an excellent week full of points and wins for the boys in Red. With wins against the Sabres, Kings, Avalanche, and Coyotes, they have forced themselves back into the race for the Pacific Division crown. We talk about the forward line blender and ponder about what difference Coach Ward has made.
In period two, we discuss the NHL’s attempt to assist with a culture shift within hockey. We complain about people who complain about things. Then we touch on the Detroit Red Wings who amazingly have not won a game in 12.
In the third period we talk about the future of the NHL participation in best on best international tournaments. A World Cup of Hockey in 2021 is out, but could we see the best play in the Olympics in 2022? We also disagree about gimmick teams like Team World and Team North America (Under 23 stars).
Finally in overtime, Andy is challenged to name the other five active players who join Milan Lucic as players with 200+ goals and 1000+ PIMs.
This week in period one, our co-hosts discuss all things Flames including a strange road trip with a decent record, a blowout loss, a win when they should have lost and a loss when they should have won. Oh… and also the coach resigned as a result of past sins and that might just lead to a culture change in hockey.
In the second period we talk about the Montreal Canadiens’ recent slide. Their big money goalie is looking all too human right now and we question if this is a repeat of Claude Julien’s end in Boston. Then we talk about some of the fantastic offensive campaigns that we are seeing from some of the games biggest stars.
In the third period we make some mid-season predictions on the Calder, Norris, Vezina, Rocket Richard and Hart trophies. Some of the picks may surprise you if you haven’t been following the league all that closely and some picks will be John Carlsson for the Norris.
This week in the first period we discuss a big, disappointing week for the Flames who went 1-2-1. Games against Washington, Florida and Carolina are broken down as well as the Heritage Classic game against the Winnipeg Jets. We also talk about the Flames forward lines, which have been in a blender since Czarnik went down with an injury.
In period 2, we talk news and notes around the NHL. There have been a number of significant injuries and we are talking some of the elite players around the league as well as a major signing in Nashville.
Period 3 involves a closer look at two teams that NHL fans may be a bit surprised to see near the top of their divisions after the first bit of the season. Arizona sits in 3rd in the Pacific and are looking strong and the New York Islanders are carrying on from last year’s surprised season in the Metro Division.
