Hey listeners! We hope you are ready for something new, as we bring on our first guest, Jeff Holloway.
In the first period this week, we review the Flames vs Capitals and Hurricanes. We talk about the questionable decision to start Mike Smith, the Calgorina Hurriflames scoring spree, and Elias Lindholm mocking the Hurricane skol clap. Next we offer some suggestions for (somewhat) realistic trades that the Flames may make.
In the second period, we talk about the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins big trade involving Bjustad and Brassard as well as the rumors that the Panthers may be clearing room for a couple of prominent Russian stars that may be on the move.
Then in the third period we welcome our guest Jeff Holloway. He is a very knowledgeable former goalie with plenty of coaching and playing experience. He provides some insight into David Rittich and Mike Smith’s seasons so far and then gives his take on some of the goalies coming up through the Flames system.
Lastly in OT we try to stump our guest with questions about goalies who have won the Conn Smythe trophy, but it ends with us talking trash about the Oilers (as is tradition).
Welcome back listeners! It was an interesting week for the Flames with a disappointing result against the Canadiens followed up by the best Battle of Alberta in years and a blowout on home ice against the Golden Knights.
Period 1: We discuss the week that was, including the takeover of the number 1 role by David Rittich and the development (and possible demotion) of Dillon Dube.
Period 2: At the first quarter-mark of the season we take a look around the NHL and discuss teams that are surprisingly in a playoff spot such as the Habs, Rangers, Canucks, and Stars as well as a few teams that are on the outside looking in that may be able to turn things around.
Period 3: Coaching changes! There have now been 4 coaches fired around the league and we discuss both outgoing and incoming coaches and what to expect going forward for the Oilers, Blues, and Blackhawks.
Overtime: Co-host Jim is challenged with some trivia about which teams are leading the league in offensive and defensive categories. He does not fare well.
Thank you again for listening and please share and subscribe!
Welcome back listeners! This week we review a somewhat disappointing California road trip for the Flames where they earned 2 out of 6 possible points and had up and down moments in games. We discuss the goalie controversy and if it is time for the Flames to shake up the lines to reignite their offence.
Following that, in the second period we look around the league and specifically check in on some surprising names in the top 20 scoring.
In the third period we discuss the Tampa Bay Lightning. We take a look at their current roster as well as the prospects coming down the pipeline.
Finally, in overtime we talk some trivia about the all-time Penalty Minute leaders and look for some surprises. We also give our takes on our favorite big PIM Flames from the past.
Hi listeners! We are back with another episode after a rollercoaster of a week for the Flames. Today we discuss the week that was for the Flames including a couple of rough and rougher games against the Habs and Pens, then a bounceback against the Capitals and the best 60 minute effort of the season against the Leafs.
In the other periods we discuss whether or not the NHL has become a “hugfest” as Tortarella exclaimed in an interview. We also talk about a few teams that have had unexpectedly strong starts to the season (ahem.. Montreal) and our views on how sustainable those starts are.
Finally, we have some fun with over/under guesses on goaltenders Goals Against Averages around the league. Wait til you hear about Philly.
