Are you feeling bored without much NHL hockey and no Flames games to talk about? Give us a listen as we recap a really mediocre last week of games heading into the CBA mandated break and All-Star weekend. We talk about a distracted showing in Montreal, a good tilt with some great goaltending in the Big Smoke, and then a bizarre fiasco in Ottawa.
Of course, we have to weigh in on the Tkachuk vs. Kassian controversy. We welcome any feedback if you agree or disagree with our takes.
In the second period, we do an NHL round-up and talk coaching changes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the All-Star games and much more!
In the third period (and let’s face it, also a bit in the first period – we can be a tough pair to keep focused sometimes) we talk about buyers and sellers among the Canadian teams. A lot of Northern teams are still in the mix so listen to our thoughts on which direction they will go and also which direction they should go.
Finally in Overtime we give the Calgary Flames forward, defence, and goaltending units a grade at the break.
Welcome back listeners! We are posting a bit later this week as we wanted to wait to see what happened on the trade deadline and potentially get a look at any new additions. The Flames made a minor trade for Oscar Fantenberg from the LA Kings, which we will discuss.
First period: A quick review of a 4-0-0 week by the Flames including two impressive wins over the Islanders and a couple of shakier wins over the Senators (farm team) and the Anaheim Ducks. After that we dive into the Flames basically standing pat and only making one minor move at the deadline. We have plenty of thoughts on it.
Second Period: An around the league report where we talk about the bigger deals that went down and our initial impressions on how those individual deals look. This includes the Stone trade to Vegas, Simmonds and Granlund to Nashville, Nyquist to the Sharks… and that’s just the Pacific division!
Third Period: Our co-hosts pick their winners and losers of the trade deadline including: the Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and Montreal Canadiens. Do you agree or disagree with any of our picks?
No overtime this week as this is already our longest episode. There was a ton to talk about and we hope you enjoy this one!
Welcome back listeners! Sorry for the delay on this week’s podcast.
First Period: We recap the Flames somewhat disappointing road swing from Tampa Bay to Miami to Pittsburgh as well as a solid home effort vs the Coyotes. We then discuss the Flames surging fourth line and the recent play of embattled goaltender Mike Smith.
Second Period: Back to trade deadline discussion. First we discuss the Oilers trading for Stolarz and bringing back Sam Gagner. Next we talk about some potential landing spots for the Ottawa 3 (Stone, Duchene, and Dzingel).
Third Period: We talk about the Wildcard races in the East and West, the incredible St. Louis Blues recent run, and the Carolina Hurricanes (those jerks).
OT: Lastly, we try something new with overtime this week and pick our powerplay dream line up. Give it a listen and let us know if you agree/disagree or what your picks would be.
In this episode, we discuss the week that was for the Calgary Flames including a four game winning streak starting in Toronto and wrapping up against the Blackhawks in Calgary. We also touch on a couple of stories around the NHL including the Ottawa Senators and their special teams coach as well as William Nylander.
We also talk about the divisional leaders around the NHL and then in overtime we talk about a Sean Monahan comparison that will shock you.
